22 hunters could enjoy Spring turkey hunts on private property in Yolo and Santa Barbara counties

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has a program that pays private landowners to let the public hunt on their land. The program is called the Shared Habitat Alliance for Recreational Enhancement or SHARE. The CDFW protects the landowners from personal liability, just in case someone goes wrong.

Right now, the CDFW is taking applications for two-day, spring turkey hunts in March and April, 2016. Up to 22 hunters could enjoy Spring turkey hunts on private property in Santa Barbara County and Yolo County (see below). Click here for our summary of turkey hunting laws.

To participate, you need a California Hunting License, Upland Game Bird Stamp, and a permit, which is issued through a random drawing. To submit an application, go to CDFW’s webpage for online sales. Each application costs $10.50. If you’re selected, you’ll be notified by mail.  You can either bring another hunter or a non-shooting friend. Warning shot!!!  You can only shoot non-toxic ammo (i.e. no lead).

Either way, there are additional hunting opportunities on BLM Land located near these properties, as well as the Los Padres National Forest.
