Hunting

  • Authorized Species: all legal species, but the following are emphasized:
  1. Image of Tom turkey

    Wild Turkey Hunting

    Big Game: black bear, deer, and wild pig

  2. Small Game: rabbit and tree squirrel
  3. Upland Game Birds: California quail, mountain quail, blue grouse, dove, and Turkey
  • Hunt Areas: everywhere except on private property or the State Game Refuge (see below)–
  1. Grizzly Flat Dispersed Campground: Big Game
  2. Lower Nye Campground: Big Game
  3. Private Property: identified on the map by white sections (see map)
  4. State Game Refuge: straddling the boundary line of the Stonyford and Upper Lake Districts in the southern part of the Forest

  • Shotgun restrictions

    Use of shotguns

    Shooting: NO shooting withing 150 yards of a campground or inhabited area or from a road, across a road, or across a body of water.

  • Target Shooting: do NOT shoot trees, signs, cans, or glass objects for targets
