North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve

On this page, you’ll find area-specific regulations that supplement and/or supersede general use regulations, both of which are a condition for use and incorporated by reference into the entry permit. You’ll also find links to supporting law, websites, directions, hunt maps, and a suggestion box.

Warning shot!!! Remember, federal law also applies (link to our summary of the Migratory Bird Treat Act.) and additional may be located at the Wildlife Area that you can’t find anywhere else (e.g. check station, information kiosks, permits, reservations, road signs, etc.)

    Authorized species: all legal species, but CDFW emphasizes-

  1. Big game: deer
  2. Upland game birds: Turkey and dove

  • Directions: From Hwy 70 in Oroville. Exit at Grand Ave (Exit 48). Go East (right) on Grand Ave for 1 mile. Left on Table Mountain Blvd for a tenth of a mile. Right on Cherokee Road 6.3 miles north to the reserve. Official access is through a small parking lot on the west side of Cherokee Road
  • Habitat: elevated basalt mesa with vistas of spring wildflowers, waterfalls, lava outcrops, and a rare type of vernal pool, called Northern Basalt Flow Vernal Pools

Hunting

  • Bicycles: NOT allowed
  • Camping: NOT allowed
  • Cattle: maintain a distance of 300 feet (per CDFW webpage)
  • Dogs: retain on a leash no longer than 10 feet
  • Fires: NOT allowed
  • Horses: NOT allowed

  • Hunting: Deer and upland game allowed from the day after spring Turkey season through November 15 [14 CCR § 630(d)(25)]
  • Natural resources: in general, do not remove minerals, archaeological, or natural resources
  • Refuse: remove
  • Turkey: NOT allowed during the spring season
  • Vegetation: do NOT remove or disturb
  • Vehicles: allowed only on designated access roads and parking areas
